How to wash your mat ?

At Mahola, we know how much our customers love their ayurvedic-dyed cotton yoga mats. These mats are more durable and have a unique natural beauty. Proper care will ensure that they remain a faithful partner to your yoga sessions for years to come. Below are instructions for maintaining the integrity and beauty of your Mahola mat.

General Maintenance and Washing Instructions

By following these care instructions, you can ensure that your Mahola yoga mat remains a cherished part of your practice, reflecting both durability and the natural beauty of its Ayurvedic roots.

Importance of Washing

Regular washing is essential to prevent bacterial growth and unwanted odors, particularly for yogis practicing vigorous styles like Power Vinyasa or Bikram, involving more sweating. Our mats are naturally antibacterial due to their ayurvedic properties, but regular washing is still essential.

Embrace Natural Changes

Expect slight color changes over time, as our mats are dyed using natural, non-toxic dyes. This reflects the natural processes used in their production, and the subtle fading over time is a beautiful reminder of your mat's natural origins.

Washing Instructions

Machine Wash

You can machine wash your mat using the hand wash cycle and cold water in a high-efficiency washer without an agitator.

Hand Wash

For the safest wash, especially for the first time, consider a bucket wash by soaking the mat in cold water for 5-10 minutes. The mat may release excess color during the first few washes, which does not affect its overall color integrity. Only use natural detergents and washing powders, avoiding products containing citric acids that can bleach the color and cause stains.

Frequency of Washing

For Active Yogis: Wash your mat once a month.
For Less Active Yogis: Wash your mat less frequently, as needed.

General Tips

- Cold Water Only: Always use cold water (below 30°C or 86°F) for washing.
- Natural Detergents: Use soap nuts or natural soap washing powders, and consider adding a few drops of essential oil for a refreshing scent.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Dry your mat in an open space, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent colors from fading quickly.
- Wash Separately: Wash your mat separately or with like colors to prevent color transfer.
