Our Story

"Let's remember that yoga is much more than a mere consumable product; its true meaning should never be diluted."

Yoga, a practice that has surged in popularity, is not just a fitness trend but a powerful movement towards a more conscious and responsible life. In an age where balance and harmony are increasingly valued, we see Yoga as the catalyst for a vital and urgent transformation of our societies, both within ourselves and towards our planet. This transformation is not just a choice but a necessity in our rapidly changing world.

However, only some see it that way, and the traditional sports industry has quickly entered the market. They imported their social practices and sourcing to focus on the sector's sales potential, brushing aside the ecological and societal values of Yoga.

Today's result is a dense, deceptively sustainable offering devoid of meaning and far removed from the original philosophy of Yoga.

Meanwhile, in India, the cradle of Yoga, the age-old skills of weavers are dying out as artisans leave the countryside to escape poverty. Faced with this situation, Priti and Sylvain, the 2 original founders of what would later become Mahola, came up with this project and decided to take action.

The seeds of the project sprang from a discussion between these two friends about the virtues of Ayurveda and Priti's regret at not being able to see her students practicing on traditional mats as she did in Delhi.

The subject expanded, the imagination worked, and the idea of offering durable, aesthetic ayurvedic mats to a clientele of passionate yogis was born.

There is no greater reward than working to spread and strengthen the transformative power of Yoga, especially in an age so in need of change. This association between an entrepreneur in environmental innovation and an Indian yoga teacher soon convinced 3 other partners to join the adventure. Our desire to have a positive impact, over and above profits, united us and convinced us all of the legitimacy of Mahola. The project took almost two years to mature in our minds, a testament to our dedication and patience, and finally blossomed into reality.

In early 2024, Mahola finally came to life.

Today, we are organized around two offices: one in India and the other in Europe. Part of the team works in India to train new artisans, restore traditional looms, select our organic raw materials, develop our products, and organize production. The rest of the work is done in France to manage distribution, promote our approach, and develop partnerships.

At Mahola, we believe in a future where Yoga strengthens bodies and transforms societies.

With this ambition, we move forward daily, hoping to make a modest but significant contribution to a better world.
