The Bloom colour of this YAMA mat comes from the root of alkanet, Alkanna tinctoria, used in Ayurvedic medicine for its astringent and healing properties.     • LOCALLY GROWN ORGANIC COTTON

    Grown in Tamil Nadu, our GOTS-certified organic cotton is selected for its softness and durability. Thanks to the expertise of our artisans and traditional weaving techniques, it becomes naturally non-slip, while respecting the environment and supporting local communities.

    • NATURAL LATEX

    Taken from Hevea trees and meticulously applied with a brush to the entire underside of the carpet.
    Some models with a more pronounced grip (Yama and Surya Pro) also receive a thin layer on top. Over time, you can use our latex refills to reinforce or maintain the grip of your mat, for lasting comfort and reliability.

    MANUFACTURING

    Each Mahola rug is the result of handcrafted work in Tamil Nadu, in southern India. We don't operate any factories; we work directly with weavers who perpetuate their traditional skills in the heart of their villages. The entire process relies on manual labor.

    Our commitment is complete:

    • Selection of organic cotton sourced from local farms,
    • Production of natural dyes using Ayurvedic plants,
    • Minimising the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process (0 Electricity)
    • Sustainable and secure contractual arrangementslabour

    CARE AND WASHING

    Our rug is designed to last for years, provided it receives the attention it deserves:

    WASHING

    • Machine washable (delicate cycle at 30°C recommended).
    • Use of a mild, natural laundry detergent
    • Wash separately, ideally in a protective bag to preserve the weave.

    DRYING

    • Lay flat, away from direct sunlight.
    • Avoid: sunlight, tumble dryers, radiators — which can damage plant-based dyes

    DAILY MAINTENANCE

    The natural, plant-based dyes used to color the cotton in our rugs possess antibacterial properties recognized in Ayurveda. They naturally limit the growth of bacteria. For daily cleaning, simply shaking the rug or using a natural disinfectant spray is sufficient. In case of stains, a light cleaning with a damp cloth is recommended. Avoid harsh products (fabric softeners, stain removers, abrasive soaps, etc.).

    REVIVE THE MEMBERSHIP

    Over time and with washing, the grip may diminish. Applying a thin layer of natural latex with a brush is enough to restore the original grip. In warm weather, lightly dampening your hands will improve the grip on the cotton.

Priti, an Indian yoga teacher who arrived in France almost 20 years ago, cherished the memory of the handwoven rugs from her native region, imbued with tradition and a sense of serenity. From this nostalgia emerged a meeting of minds: craftsmanship, ecology, Ayurveda, design, and modern well-being.     With proper care and respect for the product, your cotton yoga mat can last a lifetime. For the KARMA 7 and YAMA 7 models, the cotton will likely compress a bit over the years, which will slightly affect the comfort.

    03 I have never practiced on a cotton mat: which model should I choose?

    Without hesitation, the YAMA 7 mm is perfect for starting with cotton, as the transition requires no adjustment between comfort and grip. You immediately feel great on it. However, aside from this exception, it would be misleading to say that this change is not a change. Practitioners need between 1 and 3 sessions to fully find their footing. The PVC mat tends to outsource part of your core engagement, while a cotton mat allows better control of your support and works the deep muscles more for even more beneficial yoga.

    04 How often should I wash my mat?

    How often do you wash the coat you wear every day during winter? The point is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and just like your coat, you’ll need to adapt to the situation. Just like your coat, it’s not necessary to wash it after every use... So keep in mind that washing your mat too often isn’t good. Make sure to practice with clean hands and feet.

    05 Is a cotton mat suitable when you sweat a lot?
